Evolutions – Spirit I 2016

Evolutions – Spirit

“The one word that best describes the Evolutions-Spirit series is conglomerate, defined as: “a number of different things or parts that are placed or grouped to form a whole but remain distinct entities.” The paintings in this series are all related and function somewhat like chapters in a book. Other than shapes, the major components or performers are colors, sizes, surfaces, interaction and organization. Each of the aforementioned has an individual identity and role to play in this series of paintings. One of the major differences between this series and the earlier Evolutions series is, no images are attached either physically or visually to the painting edges. Each painting develops out of my past work and relates to my long standing interest in combining characteristics of sculpture in my paintings, bringing two different concerns together.”
